I’m back!! First there was no internet in this part of the world, the telecoms people were fiddling with fibre optic cables and all so that put paid to my internet access. And then i fell ill and was bedridden, the flu had me by the b... ee.. throat!!
So what has been going on at Arsenal?
1. We beat Udinese so easily that it was unbelievable. Now, make no mistake, Udinese is a very good team but on the night, they played with fear and that was their downfall. I sensed they knew that arsenal would score and if so they would be fucked. And eventually they were.
2. Frimpong looks very promising. Full of energy, driving forward. I think he may be the revelation of the season.
3. Carl Jenkinson is a very good player. You wouldn’t have known he has just come from the Championship. I think he lacks a little bit of stamina but will improve with time. He also looks a bit short on ball distribution at times. His biggest weakness is that, like rosicky, he is too one-footed. He needs to learn to use his left peg now and then or he may find it tough going in fast-paced games against top class opposition.
4. Theo is improving. I just never understood why he never changed flanks before!! He would play on the right flank for 90 minutes, even when he wasn’t getting any joy on that flank. Switching flanks helps to keep your momentum while confusing the defending team. If a right back has your number in any game, you can switch flanks, torment the left back, maybe get a goal and that does wonders for your confidence. Later when you go back to the right back to attack him, he knows he might be fucked too.
5. The team needs strengthening. Ramsey is not yet ready to play week in week out at that level. So too Wilshere.
6. We need another central defender. We are an injury away from playing Song, Miquel and Squilaci in defence.
7. We need a prolific striker to lead the line when RVP inevitably gets crocked... I was very excited with Chamakh, but now i'm not so sure...
8. Where has Arshavin gone? That little pot-bellied fellow running aimlessly on our left flank isn't Arshavin!! Somebody call the MIB...
9. Champions League draw thoughts later...
