Time For Arsenal To Stand Up

We are The Arsenal!
So we should expect Abou Diaby, who has been injury prone (after being hacked by some cunt!) to have 1 stellar season then declare that Arsenal lack ambition and demand a transfer... honestly, I expected better from Robin Van Persie.

I  was shocked when Robin Van Persie released his update for the fans via twitter on his official website. What shocked me was the manner of the announcement and the tone of it. It was a declaration of war against Arsenal- uncalled for war. A lot has been said about Van Persie's injury record, his troubled early days and how Arsenal and Arsene Wenger particularly stood by him and made him the player he is today.

I was not shocked however, when Red & White seized the opportunity to gain some political mileage with the fanbase by sending an Open Letter To The Board of Arsenal. Any sane human being should know bullshit when they see it. I did.

I saw bullshit when Robin Van Persie released his so-called update. I saw bullshit when Red & White released their so-called open letter to the Board of Arsenal. The two incidents have worked to undermine Arsenal FC. Robin saying that the club lacks ambition is an insult that is not founded. Equally, Red & white talking about matching the salaries of Super Clubs in order to compete, without burdening the club with debt is a crock of shit.

Let us look at Montpellier, the current French League 1 Champions. They had Olivier Giroud (latest Arsenal signing) in their strike force. The entire Montpellier team's, compared to the likes of Paris Saint Germain, Marseille, Lille, Bordeaux would be the Barclays Premier League Equivalent of  Wigan Athletic winning the League. And we all saw Wigan last term beat the top teams hands down because their team had desire and they worked hard.

Let us also consider Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga. They have won the league for two consecutive season now but they have not invested the economy of an African country in winning the league. They simply have a complete team that works hard for each other to win. I could pull up several other examples but I'm sure you get the picture.

So when an Arsenal player leaves Arsenal because they "lack ambition", wouldn't it be nice to see them end up at Montpellier or at Borussia Dortmund...? Clearly those teams have ambition, whereas Arsenal doesn't? I honestly would like to see Robin Van Persie go to Montpellier. Then I will believe that Arsenal lack ambition.

But the truth, dear Arsenal fans, is that it's the money. It's all about the money. As Arsenal fans, we accept that our team could win the League if we signed 2-3 good players. We have been saying this for several seasons that this team felt 2-3 good players away from winning the League title.

I still feel the same way today. We have signed two very decent strikers in Podolski and Giroud. I feel we need two more good signings in Midfield and this team will be compete geneuinely for the title.

I must also point out that there is a difference between winning and competiting for the title. I would be very happy and content coming 3rd or second in the league if we genuinely were competitive over the course of the season. What courses most Arsenal fans grief is our lack of competitiveness over the course of a season. And this is all about the quality of players we have in the team, not the price or salaries of said players.

To suggest that the financial model (self-sustaining model) of Arsenal is the problem is bullshit. Just ask Rangers FC. And especially when we have a manager like Arsene Wenger who continues to churn out good teams year after year, you cannot honestly say that Arsenal lack ambition. Arsenal lack 2-3 very good first team players every year to become competitive. If this time around we go and buy two very good midfield players, 1 attacking and 1 holding, I believe we shall genuinely challenge for the title.

Also we clearly need to move on some squad players and replace them with decent squad players who can do a job when called upon. Not easy, I know, but it has got to be done. We carry too many passengers in our squad and that is ultimately hurting us.

Now is the time to put things right. The Arsenal Board and Arsene Wenger need act: get the 2 players we need to make the team competitive. Forget getting into a mud slinging contest with R & W. This is an opportunity to go out there, buy the players we need and start preparing for the league. And if Theo Walcott doesn't sign  a new deal, then we should sign 3 more players instead of only 2 midfielders.

Failure to address the obvious deficit in our squad strength adds credibility to the bullshit being slung by Robin Van Persie and R&W. Perhaps we need to become a bit more ruthless with our players and move them on quick if they don't perform for whatever reason.

There is no guarantee of loyalty or decency after all.

We are the Arsenal! Let the canon start firing!
